THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MAYERLING (A Andrews) was reluctant to load and had to be hooded causing a delay. Trainer G S Kotzen will be advised that this colt’s starting stall certificate has been withdrawn in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
b) BARAK LAVAN (G van Niekerk) became fractious, reared in the stall, and was subsequently withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon at the start. Trainer Mrs C Bass-Robinson will be advised that this gelding’s starting stall certificate has been withdrawn in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
c) GREY GLORY (*B May), COOL MISTRAL (S Cele), MAMBO STAR (L Africa) and MIGHTY FLYER (H v d Hoven) were slow losing one length, and thereafter were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: (TN)
a) Jockey D Dillon (POWER SHIFT) reported that this gelding did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the gelding on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report.
b) Apprentice B May (GREY GLORY) reported that this colt did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the colt on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report.
c) IMPERIAL CAPTAIN (R Khathi) and TRIPPLE EXPLOSION (G Cheyne) raced green.
d) Jockey D Ashby (PERGOLA) was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read with Guideline 3, in that he used his crop in an unnecessary manner by using his crop forward of the saddle in the drawn position. Jockey D Ashby signed an admission of guilt and was fined R750.00.
e) NEW CALEDONIA (A Domeyer), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G V Woodruff was advised. (SN)
