Good Opposition

A good government does not rest on their laurels knowing that they were put into power because the majority of voters are behind them. They will work towards winning over the minority that did not vote for them and try to satisfy their needs by addressing the problems of the man in the street as most pre-election speeches promise. More importantly, any good government not only needs a vocal and critical opposition to keep them on their toes but should welcome it. A voice loud enough to be heard and a finger pointing to possible flaws in policy that could, if not addressed, at the very least upset constituents and at worst alienate them.

The racing industry is fortunate enough in this respect to have said vocal opposition in the form of the African Betting Clan site. Although opposition may be the wrong word to describe the Clan members, as it would seem, are all looking for solutions to better the industry. Just, as I'm sure, the powers that be are. They are, however, undoubtedly vocal in their criticism of what they believe to be flaws in the administration and general state of the industry at the moment and, in my very humble opinion, the governing body would do well to not only listen to their complaints but make a concerted attempt to reach some common ground with them. There seems to be a few "bones of contention" that need to be addressed. Something, that I'm sure, both parties would like to see resolved and put to rest.

In closing I appeal to all parties concerned to leave the "ego's" at the door and sit down with an open mind and let's resolve any disputes that could stunt the growth of our racing industry. "United we stand, divided we fall." It's as simple as that.
