Carl Burger
One of racing's more colourful characters, Carl Burger, who is
currently in a serious condition after a horrific accident in Namibia,
will have reason to smile this morning after his pride and joy,
"Louise's Pride" was victorious at Clairwood Park. "Louise" who was
part of a Weichong Marwing 4 timer and a Weiho Marwing treble ran on
resolutely to win a very good race.
Named in honour of his late father, Louise's Pride was purchased by
Carl for Mr. Chris Stander. The colt started his racing career with
Carl who was then based at Phillipi training center running a
satellite yard for Selvin Moodley. When Selvin retired from racing, Carl
returned to Durban and for a short while worked for Weiho at Clairwood
before leaving racing to concentrate on his outside business
interests, leaving the horse in Weiho's very capable hands.
Whilst traveling to Windhoek on business in mid December he was
involved in an accident when one of his tires burst causing his car to
roll. Carl sustained multiple injuries including a broken shoulder, arm
and ribs as well as a punctured lung. He was placed in ICU in Windhoek
where he remained in a serious condition until early January. Thankfully, the latest prognosis is good and although he remains on a
respirator and is still very weak he is through the worst and is
expected to make a full recovery.
Formgrids and their affiliates echo
the sentiments of his many mates and fellow clansmen from African
Betting Clan when wishing Carl a speedy recovery and a quick return to
the Industry that is very close to his heart.
Get well soon Bud.
The Big G.
