Sun Shines In Classique
The old adage "horses sometimes lose their form but never lose
their ability" was highlighted this weekend when the super talented
Sun Classique bounced back to her true form and annihilated a top
class field in the Grade 1 Woolhavington 2200 at Greyville with a
scintillating victory. Coming from last to win going away from her
rivals, she left no doubt as to who the best of her generation is.
After a fairly level start First Power dictated the early gallop
from Arabian Pearl with
Outcome also racing prominently ahead of
Festive Occasion who was perfectly placed on the rails in fourth.
Crescent Lily and
Steffies Joy (Aus) followed with
Sally Bowles in
midfield ahead of Competitor,
London Fashion,
Winter Ade and
Angel
Flight, leaving the Mike Bass pair of Sun Classique and River Jetez
last and second last respectively.
Turning for home Arabian Pearl was quick to challenge and she
quickly got clear with Festive Occasion trying to make up the ground,
but under some urgent riding from jockey Mark Khan, was making heavy
weather of it and for her supporters - the writing was clearly on the
wall. Inside the last furlong Arabian Pearl looked a likely winner as
Festive Occasion, although fighting on doggedly still looked unlikely
to get to her. Meanwhile, Bernard "Coolhand Luke" Fayd'Herbe had
brought Sun Classique to the outside for a run and the pair flew up to
clinch an ultra impressive last-stride victory ahead of Arabian Pearl
who held on for 2nd from the dogged and determined Festive Occasion by
a whisker, with River Jetez also making up a lot of ground for a very
creditable fourth.
This run brings Sun Classique into the reckoning for the Vodacom
July and if the rumours are to be believed, Jeff Lloyd will partner
her in the big one should she get a run, so with that calibre of
assistance from the saddle she will certainly not be without a chance.
Apart from Sun Classique, the other 3 fillies can be followed with
confidence in the near future as they all ran great races. However, if
they bump into Sun Classique again, then it is them that will be doing
the following...
All that’s is left for me to say is welcome back to our champ in
waiting - Sun Classique. America's loss is surely our gain.
This Natal Winter Season is going to be a "Hum Dinger" so fasten
your seat belts...
Good racing all.
